Scavengers

Scavengers is a camp which is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, bird watchers, budding photographers. Located 50 kms away from Bangalore is the hidden gem amidst the lush greenery and rocky hills. “The Country’s Only Vulture Sanctuary”. The region is covered in scrub forest and is home to threatened bird species such as the yellow-throated bulbul and long-billed vultures. The hill is today one of the few locations in south India where long-billed vultures nest. The region is also home to numerous sloth bears. Tigers were found in the region in the 1900s. Egyptian vultures have also been sighted here, scavenging the skies. The Long billed vulture, Egyptian vulture and Yellow-throated bulbul are critically endangered. More attention and effort is needed to protect and conserve these large winged beauties. Apart from the above mentioned endangered species of birds we can also spot Red vented bulbul, Red whiskered bulbul, Purpled rumped sunbirds, Scaly Breasted Munia, a few Indian Robins, Ashy Prinias, WT Kingfishers, Laughing Dove, Bramhiny kite, Jungle Myna, Drongo, Pond Herons, Egrets, Oriental White eye, White cheeked Barbet, Coppersmith Barbet and many more resident birds.
