Introduce your child to a sport and at the same time spend some invaluable bonding time by taking them to an action-packed football game.
Bangalore Football Stadium
The home ground of Bengaluru Football Club (BFC) is located on Magrath road. It is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport being very close to M.G. Road. The Bangalore Football Stadium has a capacity of around 15,000 and the seats are in well covered areas.
Being an avid sports lover myself, I often dream of my son being the next Virat Kohli or Baichung Bhutia. I found a great way to introduce my 4 ½ year old son to a sport and at the same time spend some invaluable bonding time by taking him to an action packed football game.
Kick-off
With the ongoing i-League tournament the ground has played host to several visiting football clubs from all over the country. On match day the Bangalore Football Stadium comes alive with the crowds draped in blue cheering the home Bengaluru FC team. The chanting of ‘BFC BFC’ and the loud cheer when a goal is scored is an absolutely exhilarating experience.
We booked two tickets for Rs 500/- each and were seated in the West Platinum stand that has a great view of the game and is also close to the action. Right from the start of the match I had to answer his questions such as “Who is the captain of the team? What is the referee doing in the match? How many players on each side? What are the names of the teams? What is a foul & a free kick? Why did the referee give a yellow card?”
I never realised that my son would be so curious to learn about the game and would be absorbed by the stadium atmosphere. I found this a great time to explain to him the basic rules of the game, the role of the referee, the number of players on each side whilst watching a live football game on the pitch.
At half time we were given a snack box which is included in the ticket price and contains a juice and some light snacks which was great. Also I took the opportunity to buy him a Bengaluru FC team jersey that is available at the stand entrance which was a good souvenir to take home.
A real bonus for us at the end of the game was to actually walk down to the pitch and interact with some of the visiting team players who were really friendly and ready to oblige with some photographs as well. All in all it was a great experience and would highly recommend every parent to do with their child.
Cost
A ticket costs Rs. 500/- each which would seat you in the West Platinum area and also includes a snack at half time. Tickets can be booked at www.bookmyshow.com or purchased at the venue directly depending on availability.
Parent tip
* Parking can be an issue as the area around the stadium gets busy on match day so it is best to reach by public transport or to park in the nearby Garuda Mall and walk across to the ground.
* Also buy the Rs 500/- ticket to the West Platinum stand as it is completely covered and less crowded while being bit more kid friendly.
Verdict
Overall it was a great experience and would highly recommend every parent take their child for a sports event. Both my son & I had such a memorable experience that I’m definitely planning on taking him to the upcoming IPL Cricket tournament that begins in April 2014 with matches in India from May 02nd. So go out there and awaken that budding sport star in your child!
