Art cuts across barriers of language; art represents visually what we cannot often say in words. This Independence Day the children of the city have created beautiful pieces of art to give voice to their thoughts and feelings on the importance and meaning of the occasion.
Leading up to Independence Day, we asked children from around town to send us drawings and paintings on the theme. We received a lot of wonderful entries and the unfurled tri-colour flying proudly features prominently in many of the art pieces. As a country we celebrate many religious and regional festivals, but when Independence Day comes around every year, it is hard to describe the fierce pride that fills us as we see the flag and hear the national anthem. We think of the leaders of our freedom struggle, the soldiers standing guard at our borders, our brothers and sisters who speak different languages but who also share the same deep pride and love for our great nation.
It’s wonderful to see the children express these themes as art, each piece is truly unique and thoughtful. The future of this land is in their hands, the same hands that have shown how great their love for the nation is.
