Parents, do you ever wonder how to make reading powerful, effective and fun for your kids? How to make it a meaningful learning experience for them! Well, we’ve got a perfect program for you!

Reading is fundamental and it is important for all, especially for children. Considering the current situation where technology is taking over the mental stimulation we get by reading books, newspapers or even a magazine, it is slowly moving us all further away from books as many of us have started to compensate reading with YouTube videos or audios.

When we read books, there are many benefits that not just adults but children gain as well. They become more knowledgeable, more empathic by experiencing and understanding the characters’ emotions, along with becoming open-minded and critical thinkers as well.

Children build their independence and self-confidence by actively questioning things around them hence making them more aware of the world, they live in. Not just this, it promotes their brain development and enhances their imagination, teaches them different languages while expanding their vocabulary and grammar – this in turn lays the foundation of  lifelong learning process.

We’re sure you are all well aware of all the benefits but at the same time we also do understand the struggles some parents face when it comes to getting their children to read. Worry no more as we bring to you, the ‘Read to Think’ Reading Program, that follows a simple mission – to inspire little minds to become independent and informed thinkers by using the power of ‘Deep Reading’.

Why enroll your kids to the ‘Read to Think’ Reading Program?

Read to Think, is an in-depth reading program that provides young minds with a curriculum that enables them to develop the habit of deep reading along with thinking skills and emotional intelligence skills. Based on extensive research and practical experience of running reading programs for children they have developed a six-month program, divided into three 8-week modules.

The program uses reading of children’s literature to teach them first to be focused and attentive so that that they become engaged readers. They are then gently nudged to dig deep into their readings to develop important life skills like self-awareness, social awareness, empathy, questioning, research, and critical thinking.

The journey – how it all began!

Charu was first exposed to the wonderful world of children’s literature when she became a mother. Seeing her children enjoying reading even before they could recognise letters and make sense of the print piqued her interest. Even though she did not fully understand the power of books on young minds at that time, she was sure that she was going to make all efforts to fuel their insatiable hunger for stories by providing them with access as best as she could.

As her children started school and discovered digital media, her concern like many other parents, shifted from just providing them access to good books to ensuring they continue to read with focus and attention. Added to this, the new challenges of the 21st century like climate change, growing inequality, future of work and dwindling natural resources made her wonder, why we continue to teach our children the way we were taught assuming that the world around us is not changing at all.

First, as a mother who always thought of innovative ways to provide meaningful learning experiences to her children and later as someone who worked closely with children through libraries and children literature for nearly 12 years, she knew reading or rather Deep Reading is one of the most impactful solutions especially during the formative years.

Strongly influenced by the writing and research of Dr. Maryanne Wolfe, Cognitive Scientist and Reading Scholar, she co-founded ‘Read to Think’ with Nisha Tyagi – a mother and reading program curator herself, with the mission to collaborate with parents, schools and libraries to inspire little minds to become independent and informed thinkers through deep reading.
